Dr John NolanGraham O’Regan studied mathematics, physics and statistics at Lanchester Polytechnic (now Coventry University) before going on to qualify in Optometry at UWIST Cardiff (now The University of Wales).

Currently, his time is divided between his Optometry practice, domiciliary work and developing computer software for optometrists. The software includes test charts for practice and domiciliary use, computer visual field screeners, palmtop near vision tests and innovative tests for glaucoma and macular degeneration assessment. The software is in use in many practices across the UK, and in Australia and New Zealand.

He is also a regular contributor to ‘Optician’ journal. www.opticianonline.net
He is married, with two children.

Optometrist working in independent practice.

Additional Optometric Interests:
The development of computer-based optometric vision tests with particular application to the domiciliary setting.

Qualifications:  
May 1973: Awarded BSc in Applied Physics at Lanchester Polytechnic, Coventry
June 1977: Awarded BSc in Optometry at UWIST, Cardiff

Academic responsibilities:
October 1979 to July 1980
Part time lecturer in refraction and examination techniques, Department of Optometry, University of Wales, Cardiff

October 1980 to May 1984
Established and ran the Low Vision Assessment Clinic at the Gloucester Royal Hospital, Gloucester, with training and advice from the late Janet Silver of Moorfields eye hospital, London.

Scientific skills: Optometry, information technology (database and spreadsheet analysis), physical and statistical studies, the application of psychophysics to optometric examination techniques.
